How to Get More Taxi Customers: 12 Ideas for Caribbean Taxi Companies

Every taxi company wants more riders, but the ones that grow steadily in the Caribbean rarely do it with big advertising budgets. They do it by being easy to find, easy to book and easy to book again. Here are twelve practical ideas that work for taxi, tour and charter companies on any island, from a two-car operation to a fleet of fifty.

Be easy to find

1. Claim your Google Business Profile

When a visitor lands and searches “taxi near me” or “airport taxi” on their phone, Google shows local businesses on a map first. A free Google Business Profile puts you there. Add your phone number, WhatsApp, opening hours, the areas you serve, photos of clean vehicles and a link to book. Then ask happy riders for reviews: profiles with recent, detailed reviews win the clicks.

2. Have a simple website that answers the basics

Your website does not need to be fancy. It needs to say what you do, where you operate, what common trips cost, and how to book, on a page that loads quickly on a phone. Add a page for each trip type you want more of, such as airport transfers or tours, so you appear when people search for them.

3. List with your tourism board and local directories

Many Caribbean tourism boards, hotel associations and cruise port websites list approved transport providers. Get on every list you qualify for. These listings bring visitors who have already decided to book a licensed operator.

Be easy to book

4. Give riders an app with your name on it

Riders now expect to book on their phone, see the fare upfront and watch the car arrive. If you are not offering that, global ride-hailing apps will. A branded booking app gives your riders the same convenience, with your company’s name on the App Store, every screen and every receipt, and you keep 95% of each completed app fare.

5. Answer every enquiry fast

A visitor messaging three taxi companies will book the first one that replies with a clear price. Make sure phone calls and WhatsApp messages are covered during busy hours, and use quick reply templates for your most common trips.

6. Publish fixed prices for popular trips

Airport to the main hotel areas, the cruise port to the top attractions, a half-day island tour. Publishing these prices on your website and in your app removes the biggest worry visitors have: being overcharged. It also stops the back-and-forth that slows bookings down.

7. Accept cards as well as cash

Many visitors arrive with cards and little local cash. Letting them pay by card in the app wins bookings you would otherwise lose, and makes business riders happier too. See our guide to accepting card payments.

Turn one ride into many

8. Ask every rider to save your app

The cheapest customer to win is one who has already ridden with you. When a visitor books their airport pickup in your app, they already have it for the rest of their stay. Train drivers to mention it at drop-off: “Book your return and any trips this week right in the app.”

9. Partner with hotels, villas and guest houses

Front desks and villa managers are asked for transport every day. Offer them a reliable partner with fixed rates, quick confirmation and live tracking they can share with guests. One good hotel partnership can fill a car every day. Our guide on winning hotel and corporate accounts explains how to pitch it.

10. Go after local businesses

Offices, banks, embassies, clinics and schools all need staff and visitor transport. They value punctuality, receipts and one account to bill. Corporate work fills the quiet weekday hours that tourist work leaves empty.

11. Collect and share reviews

After every trip, ask for a star rating in your app and, for your happiest riders, a Google review. Read the low scores the same day and fix the cause. Over time, ratings also show you which drivers your riders ask for again.

12. Use social media to show, not sell

Short videos of the drive to a waterfall, a clean van ready for a wedding, or a driver helping a family with luggage do more than any advert. Post regularly on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, tag the places you visit and always include how to book.

Put it together

You do not need to do all twelve at once. Start with the three that bring the fastest results: a Google Business Profile, fixed prices for your popular trips and a simple way to book you on a phone. Then build partnerships and repeat business on top.
